This is a very unique additive synthesizer, which takes a lot of inspiration from TAP and Oval. I tried to make Tetra play the way both of these controllers do, but with some differences. Also, I used the Class-D amplifier from Audirvana in order to achieve that deep, sometimes dirty sound. The various features on Tetra allow you to morph between different timbres or filter input and output, all while playing notes.

The first step to making a sound on Tetra is to change the timbre, the second is to change the amount of filtering, and the third is to change the resonance/low-pass frequency. The diagrams below show this process.

Now, let’s take a closer look at the various features of Tetra.
Sample Rate: Your timbre and resonance can be changed in one of two ways: per-sample, or per-note.
The controller was designed to be used per-sample in order to get interesting timbres. The FFT data is being processed and stored per sample, which means that you can easily change the timbre per note.
This feature allows you to make a wide range of interesting timbres, as you can add multiple features per sample.
Resonance: This takes both the filter frequency and how much the filter is spread over those frequencies.
Tetra has two ways to control the resonance. One is per-sample, while the other is per-note.
You have a range of options to control this: from single-rate, to sliding/random, to how fast the resonance change happens, and how much it changes.
As with most features on Tetra, these can be used either per-sample or per-note.
Low-pass Filter: This is the control that turns Tetra into a subtractive synth.
Tetra’s dual-rate LFO allows you to turn this feature on and off for the entire timbre chain. You can also control the low-pass frequency, and the saturation/damping factor.

This filter is inspired by the technology found in many super tweeters (for example, the  TB1).

Because it is a very specific case of a two-pole filter, its poles are close to the real axis (0, -7), and its zero is roughly at 0 Hz. The most interesting characteristic is that it controls volume with phase, so the gain is not symmetrical with respect to the real axis.

This filter uses 500 Hz-18 kHz as input and as output chooses the best of the two timbres as a controlled amount of harmonics are filtered.
To get the best results, please make sure your input is not too powerful before or during morphing. Because most timbres cannot be turned into anything else once the correct harmonics are filtered, some textures may not be as good as you might have expected.
